Electronic Lock Everyday Use and Features

Everyday Use and Features FAQs

How do I change the lock batteries?

Using a Phillips head screwdriver, loosen the screw located at the top of the interior battery cover. Remove the battery cover. Remove the 4 AA batteries and insert 4 new AA batteries. Reinstall the black battery cover and tighten using the small black screw.

My batteries are draining quickly, why?

There may be a few reasons why your batteries are draining faster than expected.

First, check to make sure the white cable on the inside of the lock is securely fastened. To do this, you will need to remove the battery cover from your lock, remove the 4 AA batteries and then unscrew the three small black screws (two in the battery compartment, one at the base of the lock interior) and dismantle the interior side of the lock. The white cable connecter has two ridges the should be facing outwards and the cable connecter should snugly fit into the adapter located on the interior side of the lock. This video can help.

Another reason why your battery may be draining could be that, if you’re using a smart home hub (i.e. Samsung SmartThings, Wink, Connected by August, etc), your hub may be too far away from your door. If you continue to see issues, please contact support@yalelock.com.

Can I use anti-bacterial wipes or spray on my Yale Lock?

Yes, you can clean touch screens and keypad of the Yale Locks with alcohol based sanitizing wipes or spray.

Please do NOT use petroleum based products such as acetone.

How often should the battery be changed?

The batteries are expected to last up to one year under normal operating conditions. Extreme high and low temperatures may affect battery performance. If the battery is low, a series of warning beeps will sound and the “Yale Real Living” deadbolt will also provide you with a visual low battery warning after a valid code has been entered. The lock operates as normal immediately following the alerts. The critical battery indicator causes the “Yale Real Living” deadbolt to flash red and the lock does not operate. The mechanical key can be used to unlock the lock under these conditions. Replacing the battery once every year is recommended to ensure optimal performance.

How many languages do Yale Touchscreen Keypad Deadbolts speak?

Yale Touchscreen Keypad Deadbolts have voice assisted programming and operation in three languages; English, Spanish, and French.

Is my lock secure? I saw a demonstration where a Yale deadbolt was locked and unlocked without a key or code.

We are aware that an individual has demonstrated how he was capable of manipulating a Yale deadbolt, thereby creating a potential security lapse. We take all such assertions and demonstration regarding our products extremely seriously. As we all know, no lock/deadbolt is, or could claim to be, completely invulnerable to all forms of attack, especially when a person has the time, skill, and knowledge to do so. As part of our continuous improvement efforts, we have developed an improved cylinder that adds an additional amount of security to the deadbolt. All locks with cylinders manufactured since 2014 include this product improvement.
