Connected by August FAQs

Have a Question About Connected by August?

Why have August and Yale partnered to create the Assure Lock Connected by August?

Yale and August are both owned by ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in door opening solutions. By sharing technology between groups we can offer consumers a better overall experience and speed up introduction of new products and features.

Can I use the Connected by August Kit (Module) with my lock?

Connected by August is only compatible with the Assure series. To tell if you have an Assure series lock you can check three things:

  1. Do you have a check and gear on your keypad?
  2. Is your privacy button to the side of your thumb turn?
  3. Does your lockset have a module slot when you remove the battery cover?

If the answer to all of these questions is “Yes” then your lock is compatible!

What comes in the Connected by August Upgrade Kit?

The kit comes with a Connected by August Module, the August Connect Wi-Fi bridge and the DoorSense.

What is the August Connect Wi-Fi bridge? Do I have to install/use it?

The August Connect allows your module to connect to the internet, which gives you the ability to control your lock from anywhere using the August app. Remote features include, being able to check your door status, lock and unlock your door from anywhere and grant access to others. In addition, installing the August Connect gives you access to existing August Home integrations – including AirBnB, HomeAway, Simplisafe and all three voice services (Google, Amazon Alexa, Siri)

What is DoorSense?

DoorSense is a sensor that allows you to monitor door position (i.e. if the door is opened or closed).

I already have a Yale Smart Module in my Assure Lock – Can I still add Connected by August?

No – the Connected by August module uses the same slot as whatever module you may have today so your lock can only house one module.

What app do I download to use with the Connected by August module?

The Connected by August Assure Locks work with the August app. This free app can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play Store. Yale apps are not compatible.

Doesn’t Yale already make a Bluetooth lock, why is this different?

The Connected by August module allows a user access to a better Bluetooth experience. The August app and Connected by August Kit add – Unlock on arrival, door position sensing (when DoorSense is installed) and remote access via the August Connect Wi-Fi bridge. Additionally the August app allows simplified access sharing and access to numerous integrations such as AirBnb, HomeAway and all three voice services (Google, Amazon Alexa and Apple Siri)

Can I use Connected by August on my current Yale Bluetooth Lock?

Yes – You can add the Connected by August Kit to your Yale Assure Lock with Bluetooth. Please be aware that use of the Connected by August module will deactivate the current Yale Bluetooth.

What is the difference between iM1 and Connected by August, they are both Homekit?

Both iM1 and Connected by August allow you to control your home with Apple HomeKit, but there are a few differences.

The iM1 Module only supports HomeKit and does not have support for virtual keys, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Airbnb, HomeAway or DoorSense. You manage the iM1 module using the home app and the Yale Secure app – this is great for someone that is a very apple oriented family or home. It also does not support Auto Unlock on Arrival.

The Connected by August Kit allows you to integrate your Yale lock to HomeKit and mange it though the August app – because the August app has support for both iOS and Android it is a better app for a house with multiple technologies of phone.

Connected by August also gives you additional features such as Auto Unlock, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant integration, DoorSense, and much more.

  • “Alexa, unlock my door.”*
